Two years ago I got a call from a dear friend. Her behavior was so erratic and unlike her, I was convinced she was on drugs. When I later found out that her actions were a result of faulty brain chemistry, I found it ironic that the thing that would help her would be prescription drugs. Instead of having a drug problem, her problem was lack of drugs. Message in a Bottle came out of a need to understand the illness, but evolved into a piece that aesthetically embraced the beauty of the medicine that would allow her to function. A private, personal message between us is hidden in the piece, but publicly, the piece accepts the illness and the means to recovery.
