Hand Drawn Bird

I don't love this bird. I liked him alone, on paper, but not in this drawing.

Stepping back again. Need to look at again with fresh eyes.

Thinking Outside the Box...Literally

I think this might be the answer. Who knew?

Gotta go get another bird though.

In Progress...Taking a Step Back...

So I am kind of at this point I need to take a step back and look at this print. Something is missing I think, which is a struggle because I want to keep the simplicity of it as well.

Further, I want the clothes to be the focus of the print, and that's not happening.

And I don't like the navy blue in the pallette, but I am not sure what other color to use because clearly I need one more. Grey?

Not sure about the ground. Thought I might need it to offset the sky. I'd like it to be graphic as opposed to drawn, but at the same time, I want this to be a print, a drawing, not graphic design. Does this make sense?

Just kind of talking myself through the process...thanks for coming along for the ride.

Ok, I am going out to try and get some pictures of flying birds, because this one is not mine...I just borrowed it for the sketch...

Working on a baby print

Here is part of the image of the baby print I am working on. I don't have too much to say about it. I am not sure where I am going with it, or even at this point consciously why I am working on it, but I guess that is half the fun.

The image is a found image from an old book.

It's been a while...

So it has been a while, and I just wanted to let you all know I am still alive and still creating...its just been a lot of projects that I am working out and not ready to share. I am deeply involved in my new studio space now, so I think my projects posted might be few and far between, but when I do post, hopefully it will be larger projects.

These women here (for those of you that know me, can you find me?!) are part of a project on female body image I am working on. Not exactly sure where it is going, but I have some ideas...for now I have been working on silhouettes when I have a free moment. (Ladies, if you want to particpate, I would LOVE you to...just send me a full length picture of you in a bathing suit (or underwear is fine) as well as your height.)

*And yes, I will make this image more diverse (or less Caucasian) eventually. Again, this is a work in progress and I am just color coding for now, need to work out colors later.*

Hopefully I will motivate as well in the next couple days to scan and post my page a day...

Print of a Chair

This is going to be a short post. I am not feeling that great, but I wanted to post this small 6x6" print I did. I am not sure if I want to go further with this within the print or whether I want to play upon this piece by expanding on the concept by way of multiple prints on the same theme. Anyway, I need to rest.

A Drawing A Day? 11.14.07...

So I said some of these drawings would be not as frequent and hopefully some of these would last over some days. Here is one of them. I think I left the original drawing at the studio, and I will need to get that and scan it in at some point. This one, Pair and Lemon (© 2007, silkscreen on paper, 6x6 inches), is currently undergoing some analysis. It wasn't supposed to stop here but I am thinking I like it. However, I have a number of copies of this, so it is always worth playing with. I really like the depth and the layering of color of this print. I love the simplicity and the boldness.

The tan background was created by printing the off white twice over the brown. I like the effect, but it was originally
supposed to be less opaque. The reason I printed the white twice was that I am really having a technical problem with snap-back, and my screen keeps kissing the he paper when lifting and leaving these rings. I am really quite frustrated with that part of it, and I have been doing a lot of research and book buying and group joining to get help, because the one answer I got twice is just causing more problems.

The original piece, and the way I might go deeper into other copies of this, was supposed to have a shadow under the fruit and an outline, done in woodcut but also reminiscent of Roy Litschenstein's linear treatment (as in this painting). I am not even sure how the woodcut will take, as I don't have the most advanced woodcut printing set up and my woodcut skills are a little rusty. Speaking of rusty, I might even need to sharpen my tools and I don't even remember how! I will post the results when they happen though.
