A Drawing A Day, 2.22.2008

To start off, I am having a hard time scanning these if and when I scrape into the clayboard at all, so I don't believe this is an accurate depiction.

This was my first time drawing ice cream, as it was my first time modeling fake ice cream out of Crisco, corn syrup, and powdered sugar. ('ll talk more about this experience on Scoopalicious with in the next couple of weeks.) I had to do a lot of searching but I finally did find a number of them. I tried the first one here (though I am not sure why the Canadian government is posting fake ice cream recipes, but...) and it worked wonderfully! I couldn't believe that it wasn't ice cream! Now I want to go into food styling!

As for the watercolor itself, it measures in at 5x7 inches. As this was such a new subject matter for me, I really struggled with it. There is so much texture in ice cream that I wasn't able to capture. At the same time, the spoon and the bowl were smoother than I have worked with in the past so this was also quite a journey. Either way, I am enjoying the journey and am learning new things daily.

On another note, I think I need to rexamine the parameters of A Drawing A Day, because this doesn't fit the original guidelines of 6x6 for sure.

I am dying to see the fake ice cream. What a great idea and your drawings are awesome. Nice work especially on a cold snowy and sleepy day!
